What We Carried 2,650 Miles.
Ah… Gear Lists. So much work goes into deciding what you are going to bring on trail and what is the weight weight weight of every little thing! Every ounce counts – especially when you are hiking 20+ miles a day for about 150 days! We worked very hard to figure out our balance of lightweight equipment within our budget range and without throwing all comforts out the window.

Buckeye’s Gear list
Below is an explanation of how we have categorized the gear we brought along on our journey. Please comment or email us if you have questions about any of our gear!
The Bedroom
- Sleeping bag (+compression sack)
- Backpack
- Shelter
- Sleeping mat
- Ground Cloth
We worked quite hard early on in our PCT planning to find the lightest weight gear in our budget ranges (Hallelujah for REI garage sales and google shopping!).
The Kitchen
When we say kitchen, what we really mean is our way to boil water. Click the link below to see pics of our homemade kitchen gear explained by the wonderful Swift in a sweet video!

Clothing in the Closet
Wool. We like merino wool – mainly because it does not stink in 3o minutes like polyester materials. In addition to the clothes we will be wearing on trail, we have our cool off and relax around camp clothes.
Clothing Worn
Pretty important stuff…
Personal
Toothbrush, paste, and other items to ensure our hiker freshness…
A bit more Stuff
All those darn, hard to categorize trinkets, that we deem necessary for our travels. We’ll see what gear in this category actually makes it to Canada!
The Sierra
Ah yes, the Sierra. Where you must cross incredible pass after high elevation pass with a heavy bear canister and ice ax. You will see a category for the additional items we plan to mail ourselves for this mountain range.
