Trail Angels

We could not be successful if it weren’t for random acts of kindness (known as “Trail Magic”) that these incredible kind-hearted people or persons perform on a regular basis. Trail Magic includes transportation, accommodation, food, etc. We are extremely grateful to those who make sacrifices to ensure to help others reach their goals. You may not remember us, but we definitely remember you!

  • Whitney and Janna Smith – ride to Stockton Train Station
  • Tynan and Kelly – ride from Union Station to Mike’s
  • Mike Casentini (Melissa’s Brother)- great dinner and place to sleep in LA
  • Halfmile and Nymph!! – pick up in San Diego and ride to Border, then they treated us to delicious cheeseburgers at their camp site. Halfmile also gave us a ride to San Diego when our Iphone died the second day!
  • Chris, Stefan, and Juan – Mac store employees who saved the day and helped us (before the store even opened!!!!)
  • Gourmet – Thank you for the delicious cheeseburger and great reflection on why we hike the trail. It was very touching
  • Mover – Thanks for the delicious oatmeal cookies as we finally departed from Lake Morena
  • Wayne at Mile 69 – thanks for the shade, refreshing water and expensive snickers bar
  • Dave Dave and Jon (pct class of 03) at Scissors Crossing, Mile 77.2 – thank you for the cool drinks and refrshing water cache before we hit the grueling 14 mile dry, uphill climb
  • 3rd Gate Water cache suppliers, Mile 91.2 – wow. Your hard work supplying us with water in the boonies is truly he work of angels.
  • Grumpy (class of 04) at Barrel Springs, Mile 101.4 – really?! Bagels! Chocolate candies! Turkey! Soda! Gatorade! And more! Unbelievable! We hobbled over to Warner Springs with smiles on our faces and full bellies. Thank you so very much.
  • Big Foot at Warner Springs, Mile 109 – thank you for teaching us how to walk and listen to our bodies. Incredible information that will help us go far safely. Loved the useful conversation!
  • Big Mike and Gourmet, mile 127 – Great to see Gourmet again at Big Mike’s house. Thank you for the great convo and wood-burning stove that warmed us up after the constant chill of wind all day.
  • Jackie Fleming, mile 151.3 – Jackie! You are incredible! Thanks for picking us up at hwy 74, taking us to the store, and back to the Boojum base for a home-cooked meal and a night off from the sub-freezing temperatures!
  • Rosanna at Idyllwild, mile 179.3 – Thank you for our first package on the trail!
  • Steven & Allison at Hwy 18, mile 265.9 – Thanks for the ride to Thelma’s and we hope you had a wonderful brunch birthday Allison!
  • Deb Ludewig and Whit Smith at Big Bear City – Thank you for taking care of us sending us goodies, new chargers, and a sleeping mat. We love you.

  • Bo and Brad in Wrightwood, Mile 369.6 -Thank you so much for visiting us! We were so excited to see you. Bo thank you for lunch and Brad thank you for the delicious mocha shake! It was so much fun hiking with you two!
  • Law & Order on the side of Fort Tejon Rd, Detour mile 13ish – Wow! Delicious homemade tacos, watermelon, brownies, and soda on the side of a road! Absolutely incredible trail magic.
  • Thomas on the side of Fort Tejon Rd, Detour mile 17ish – what a stylish way of presenting trail magic. Pulling over and jumping out of your car without a word ruffling through your trunk, and presenting avocadoes and oranges to us. Delicious!
  • The Saufleys. The incredible Saufleys. Agua Dulce, mile 454 – Beautiful home with horses, dogs, and love everywhere! Shelters for us to sleep in, a laundry place (our laundry is done for us) and great ambiance. Donna – thank you for picking us up 3 miles out when my shins gave out. I could not think of a better place to rest and recover.
  • Uncle Frank at Agua Dulce mile 454 – Delicious Brownies! Melt in your mouth! We love love love! Thank you so much.
  • Deb Ludewig at Agua Dulce, mile 454 – Thank you so much for the goodies and my beautiful hat mom.
  • Kary from Agua Dulce, mile 454 – Thank you for the fun trip to LA for new shoes and yummy food. You are awesome! And I love your house and all your horses!
  • The Andersons’ Casa La Luna, mile 478.6- Two words, TACO SALAD, oh and PANCAKES plus one more magical manzanita grove.
  • Greg and his hiking companion (cute little pup), mile 508- Words of encouragement and three tigers milk bars.
  • Richard and Bob, mile 518- Hikertown. Leftovers, a place to rest our weary eyes, strawberry/ banana pancakes, and a lift to the market.
  • Steven and the ACE Crew, mile 558.8, Grilled cheese sandwitches, peanut butter pretzels and water.
  • Jo at Hwy 58, mile 566.5- Driving out of her way from Tehachapi to give us a lift from Hwy 58 to Mojave.
  • Uncle Carl and Aunt Donna, mile 566.5- Where to begin? Breakfast at Dennys, a ride to the Sports Store, Tuna Melts for lunch, homemade cookies, great conversation, a clean homey place to sleep, shower and fresh smelling towels, laundry and the list continues. You truely are amazing family!
  • Amy at Walker Pass, mile 652 – Go Public Health nurse! You are awesome and thank you for the ride to Lake Isabella for delicious milkshakes.
  • Doug, mile 652 Walker Pass- Thanks for the lift and engaging conversation.
  • Aunt Rosanna. Mile 702- Chocolate milk… our favorite, as well as coconut water.
  • Deb, Kennedy Meadows, Mile 702- New tent!!!! Beef jerkey!!!!! Hand knitted custom hat and tons of snickers!!!!! Thank you so much for everything.

  • Pops, mile 702- Thanks for mailing the 61 lb package- still waiting for it to arrive, post must have had as muchc trouble as you trying to move it around.

  • Ed and the staff at Drakesbad Guest Ranch, mile 1354 – We stumble in late and you feed us heaping plates of gourmet food and make us feel right at home. Thank you for the great hospitality and dip in the hot springs.
  • Old Station / Redding, mile 1377 – Rob, Jody, Shelby and Austin – thank you for opening your home to us and enjoying a delicious BBQ together.
  • Our Zero Day at Burney Falls- Aunt Rosanna, Uncle Carl, and Gus- We had a fantastic time and enjoyed the conversation and Gus’ entertainment.
  • Nancy and Sandy, I-5 Castella/ Dunsmuir, mile 1506.5- Your ride enabled us to tackle the upcoming climb to Castle Craggs in more manageable morning temperatures and saved us a 4 mile road walk. Thank you.
  • Alyissa and family, Etna Summit, mile 1606.3- Thanks for the lift down the windy hill for some burgers.
  • Linda at the Trailhead Resturant in Etna, mile 1606.3- The food was enjoyable and affordable, and the pictures on the wall excited our tired eyes. Thanks for the smiles.

  • Walt, Kate, and Thruhiker The Graduate, mile 2097 Wapanitia Pass – You are a terrific family. Thank you for picking us up at lunchtime for lunch and showers. Such a cozy cabin!

  • Joanne & Greg, mile 2206- The Magic PCT Bucket:  This was such a surprise filled with goodies, snickers, cookies, and kit kats, a hikers fantasy.
  • Steve and Meg, mile 2207- The fig was kind and the words kinder.
  • Serpent Slayer and Wildabeast, mile 2237- You guys are incredible and you were the highlight of the first section in Washington.
  • White Pass, Mile 2302: Bo & Erica, Deb, Stacey Smith and Family, Uncle Carl and Rosanna-  Thank you all for your generous treats and supportive words that got us through our first few wet days.
  • Chinook Pass, Mile 2332- Magic Man:  Serious, Krispy Kreme donuts, hot coffee, and chocolate milk on a rainy roadside parking lot.  You changed the day for us.
  • Bo, Deb, and Dad- Mile 2402-  Each package that arrives makes our smiles grow bigger in hopes of seeing you all soon.
  • Skykomish, mile 2476- Garrett- thanks for the ride.
  • The Dinsmores River Haven- Generous, and accomidating, you make the middle of Washington more tolerable.
  • Stehekin, mile 2576- Wade, and the fishing fellas, thanks for saving us 5$ and priceless time waiting for the bus.
  • Uncle Frank-  Your baking skills are phenomenal and your each bite of the brownies were savored and celebrated at the border!
  • Deb- The tee-shirts are classic and the baked treats were perfect.
  • Harts Pass, mile 2632-  Serpent Slayer round II.  Thank you again for thinking of everything, dry clothes, burgers, smores, and blueberry pancakes.
